[Natural Playground] Puy du Fou: A Resounding Success

A natural, themed playground at Puy du Fou

Puy du Fou, twice voted the best theme park in the world, is one of France’s most iconic theme parks. Renowned for its immersive and legendary shows, it attracts millions of visitors every year.

Against this highly demanding backdrop, the park entrusted us with the design and construction of a brand-new play area, created around a historic and fantasy-inspired world combining treetop adventure, exploration and immersive storytelling.

For us, this collaboration represents much more than just another project: it brings together artistic excellence, technical expertise and respect for nature.

A fun and active experience for children

The aim of this project was to create a playground for children, offering them a fun and dynamic activity between shows while blending seamlessly into the park’s immersive world.

Designed as a genuine adventure area, the playground allows younger visitors to extend their Puy du Fou experience through play and exploration.

A shaded playground

Nestled in a shaded clearing, the playground benefits from a particularly pleasant natural environment for families, even on the hottest days.

Trees play a central role in the project. Far from being simple landscaping features, they are an integral part of the activities and contribute directly to the play experience.

By incorporating the existing natural environment into the design, we were able to create a space that is cool, immersive and respectful of its surroundings.

Playhouses and agility courses

Le nouvel espace imaginé s'articule autour de deux grandes structures de jeux en bois composées de deux cabanes qui structurent naturellement les circulations et servent de repères aux visiteurs.

Autour de ces structures, différents modules de jeux invitent les enfants à grimper, franchir, parcourcir et explorer librement. Plots en bois, poutres, passages aériens et ateliers d'agilité se succèdent avec plusieurs niveaux de difficulté afin de convenir à tous les âges.

Entièrement réalisé en bois, l'ensemble s'intègre naturellement au paysage et s'inscrit dans l'esthétique du parc. Conçu pour accueillir un grand nombre de visiteurs, le parcours combine fluidité, sécurité et liberté de mouvement, tout en conservant un fort pouvoir immersif.

Design and Construction

A theming challenge: creating an authentic period environment

Working for a theme park such as Puy du Fou requires meticulous attention to visual consistency and storytelling. Every element must blend as naturally as possible into the park’s environment, without disrupting its aesthetics.

To achieve this, we:

carefully concealed technical components such as fixings, reinforcements and metal parts behind immersive theming;
used materials and textures consistent with the period represented, including natural ropes, wooden posts and rustic-style assemblies;
worked closely with the park’s artistic teams to ensure seamless integration into the themed area.

The result: visitors see a living historic village, rather than a contemporary structure hidden behind scenery.

Protecting the trees and the environment: a priority

Sustainability is at the heart of our construction approach.

For this project, we used Uniclou technology by Le Clou SVA, a drilled fastening system designed to preserve the integrity of the tree while ensuring the stability of the structures. The solution also has the advantage of being extremely discreet.

This choice reflects our philosophy:

minimise our impact on trees and the ground;
favour natural and durable materials;
design play areas that adapt to their environment rather than constrain it.

Each tree was carefully assessed, respected and incorporated as a central part of the experience.

3D design tools: a major advantage

Before the first hammer was even lifted, we created a complete 3D model of the future play area.

This stage allowed us to:

validate dimensions, volumes and circulation routes;
anticipate technical constraints;
optimise integration into the existing surroundings;
facilitate communication with the Puy du Fou teams.

3D modelling has become an essential tool for establishing a shared vision and preventing unexpected issues during on-site installation.

Organisation and coordination: a carefully managed project

Working within an operational theme park requires flawless organisation.

We had to take into account:

strict safety requirements;
restricted access and circulation areas;
tight deadlines;
the need to work seamlessly alongside the other trades and contractors operating on site.

This project demonstrated our ability to coordinate our teams efficiently, manage complex working environments and deliver a play area that meets the park’s artistic, technical and safety requirements.
