What is a themed amusement park?

A themed amusement park is an outdoor recreational space designed around a specific narrative or aesthetic theme, which shapes the layout, activities, and visitor experience. Unlike a simple adventure park or nature playground, it offers an immersive experience within a coherent story or setting.

Key Features:

  • Storytelling: The park is built around a story: a magical world, the spirit of nature, local legends, etc.
  • Immersive Design: Sets, structures, signage, and sometimes even the staff are integrated into the chosen theme.
  • Themed Activities: Games, trails, and activities are designed to enhance the thematic experience.
  • Narrative trail: Visitors can follow a sort of “quest” or path that gives meaning to their visit.

Why build a themed amusement park?

Attracting a Wider and More Diverse Audience

A themed amusement park boosts its appeal: it doesn’t just cater to local residents, but becomes a regional—or even national—destination.

By creating a unique, immersive experience, we attract visitors willing to travel to the park, which increases both visitor numbers and the length of their stays.

Creating a Destination Concept

A themed amusement park is more than just a few rides: it offers a comprehensive experience, featuring a variety of activities, immersive settings, and themed attractions…

This richness transforms the site into a true tourist destination, capable of attracting families, school groups, and visitors seeking unique recreational experiences.

Using a Theme as a Marketing Tool

A theme is a powerful communication tool. It allows you to tell a story, create a recognizable brand identity, and make it easier to promote the park on social media, in the media, and through tourism offices.

It becomes a strong differentiator that leaves a lasting impression and builds visitor loyalty.

Standing Out in a Competitive Market

With the growing number of leisure options available, a theme park offers a unique way to stand out from the crowd. It provides a strong identity and a distinctive visual and emotional appeal that sets it apart from other attractions. This differentiation is essential for capturing visitors’ attention and convincing them to choose your park over others.

Sparking Desire and Emotion

A themed environment stimulates the imagination: it makes people want to visit, explore, and share. It creates an emotional experience that encourages word-of-mouth, positive feedback, and social media posts. This desire becomes a driving force behind visitor numbers.

Establishing a Strong Local Presence and Highlighting the Area’s History

By drawing on local history, heritage, and legends, the park gains authenticity and credibility. It doesn’t appear out of nowhere; it tells a true story that is deeply connected to its surroundings. This strengthens the bond between visitors and local stakeholders while showcasing the host community.

Expertise

As the exclusive builder of Le Bois des Lutins, we partnered with the concept’s creators to establish RBDL, the company responsible for developing the brand. Le Bois des Lutins is an innovative themed adventure park concept launched in 2009, featuring numerous aerial activities (treehouses, nets, suspension bridges, etc.) and ground-based recreational activities centered around a unique theme. The concept has received excellent feedback from visitors. There are currently five parks in France, and a new one is under construction in Canada.

More than 7 million visitors have enjoyed our courses without PPE. Each year, our facilities welcome over a million visitors, and even more with our new projects.

We have built more than 50 projects around the world, from Spain to Denmark, Japan, and Canada, including in extreme climates. Some of our parks have received public recognition, such as a national award in Japan or a spot on the British daily newspaper The Guardian’s list of the Top 20 things to do in Europe.
